What’s your overall vibe and aesthetic for Summer 2022?

For my summer wardrobe I’m very much into the idea of light layers, I prefer for there to be elements to my outfit, whether it’s layering clothing items or accessories. I have always been into keeping outfits monotone too, in either summer or winter, that’s just something I always do as I think it’s a cheat code for making you look like you’ve put far more effort into your outfit than you actually have. If you have a dress, handbag and sunglasses all in the same colour you will always look like you know what you’re doing!

Jaime’s Top 5 Summer Must- Haves.

  • Corsets: A corset with a baggy jean or a wide leg trouser is a strong summer look for me. (Try designers like Dilara Findikoglu, Agent provocateur, Dion Lee).
  • Mesh layering: Layering doesn’t end in winter, mesh layering is great for lighter summer layers and gives an otherwise simple outfit a little more texture and depth. Ottolinger are experts at this.
  • Lace: London is the perfect place to reach for some vintage lace pieces, try Relik, One of a kind vintage, Found and Vision and Serotonin vintage, whilst taking inspiration from Rodarte’s runway lace looks.
  • Cut outs: Courreges do amazing pieces. I’m in love with the cut out pattern down the sides of this dress, plus the silhouette is perfect.
  • Statement Shirts: From bold prints, to textured fabrics but for me a plain white statement shirt is the best option for summer, as it’s fresh and so versatile. Marques Almeida, are the perfect designers for any kind of statement shirt you might be after.

What’s your overall vibe and aesthetic for Summer 2022?

This summer I think I’ll be living in denim. Denim shorts, my extreme distressed Natasha Zinko jeans, denim tops, denim jackets, my denim Diesel bag and a new pair of vintage denim heels I just copped from Depop. I’m literally writing this whilst wearing triple denim.

Magda’s Top 5 Summer Must- Haves.

  • Everything Denim: I am going crazy over denim, and the more you wear at once the better. I’m not wearing much else this season to be honest! Diesel, Eytys, Levis, Marques Almeida + anything I can get my hands on. Depop is where I’m searching for my unique denim pieces.
  • Mini skirts: The shorter, The better. Depending on how daring you’re willing to go, mini mini skirts are definitely on every it-girl’s radar at the moment, thanks to the likes of Miu Miu. But I’m on the lookout for mini skirts by smaller brands – my current wardrobe favourites are by Elliss and OGBFF.
  • Biker fashion: Maybe it’s because of the new Matrix film coming out, but I’ve been seeing a lot of leather around and I’m really into it. After denim, my most often worn looks have revolved around this trend. Think leather cropped jackets, biker shorts and vinyl trousers. It’s a trend to stick to maybe on the cooler summer days! Brands that are on my radar are Diesel (again) Mowalola and Namila.
  • Thrifting: I’d be lying if I said I was a great vintage shopper – I think I lack the patience to be honest. But everyone is going crazy over 90’s and early 2000’s fashion and are actually looking to buy pieces that existed during this time. Head to Depop and Vinted to look for pieces by the likes of Miss Sixty, Cop Copine, JPG, Mugler, Desigual and many other brands that thrived in this era.
  • Crochet and knits: This is another trend I’m seeing a lot of again. Last year people were loving it and it seems that it’s continuing to thrive. Netted knits, crochet bikinis, chunky knit mini skirts etc. I’m seeing so many amazing small designers thrive off this trend – particularly Bailey Prado and Niamh Emily Foster.

What’s your overall vibe and aesthetic for Summer 2022?

My vibe has always been a mix of high/low + new/old. I’m all about elevated essentials paired with eclectic and vintage pieces with a lot of character. Summer is the time to showcase this dichotomy: you’ll find me in vintage early 00s cargo/carpenter trousers with a crisp white t-shirt, paired with a nostalgic logo baguette or saddle bag from the 90s and fresh trainers. Easy, effortless but cool.

  • White T-shirt/Tank: I know this might seem like a too obvious place to start, but never underestimate the greatness of a white t-shirt- it is undoubtedly the blank canvas of fashion. I love a roomy cut and gently oversized that I can wear alone during hot summer days but also lightweight enough for me to layer with other pieces for those cool summer nights in the city.
  • Wide or Straight Leg Trousers: I have always lived in denim, it’s my go-to item for both work and play, but since moving to London a few years ago, I’ve got a new appreciation for tailored wide-leg trousers. They are effortlessly wearable in the summer months, and there are a lot of iterations of these pants that are “on trend” for SS22. Currently, I am into the utilitarian version- either workwear
    pants or cargo.
  • The Oversized Tote: This is a must-have for me as a stylist. I am always schlepping around the city, barely gripping my garment bags, equipment and supplies for work, so you can imagine that I might value a bag that will carry all of my endless “essentials in one go. This summer, I indulged slightly and bought a brightly coloured bag which is very in season, but more importantly, it’s a simple way to add a statement to any summer outfit without trying too hard.
  • Leather jacket: This might seem more geared towards fall, but leather has been everywhere on SS22 runways, and for a good reason. A leather jacket is a sartorial non-negotiable piece in our wardrobe. During these temperamental UK summer months, an oversized biker jacket is my forever favourite style because it works with everything. This season I’ve opt-ed for a trench/blazer versions in a bright hue to add a pop of colour.
  • Clogs: This summer, we’re seeing this style as a platform, as kitschy Y2K embellishments, but did you know this shoe has been in fashion since the 1400s? My personal favourite, the classic, comfy, suede version aka Birkenstocks. I genuinely adore these slip-on shoes as a staple in my summer
wardrobe and for days when I’m on set and standing for hours but the Bottega Veneta clog is 100% set to become a trend item of the season.

  • AGR Tie-Dye Knitter Dress: For me, this is the perfect knitted dress. Crochet and tie-dye go hand in hand to hit some of this summer’s hottest trends.
  • Valentino Silk Shirt: A button up shirt is a staple for summer, whether it’s layered over a vest or worn as a stand alone piece. I can be have a fitting with a client at 11am and drinks with girls at 8pm, it’s the perfect day to night.
  • Diesel 1DR: Arguably the bag of the season, it is the perfect size and suitable for any occasion.
  • Tank Top: The CK1 Palace Tank Top is the hottest tank top to add to your rotation. They are the basic that will get you through the summer.
  • Merrell 1 TRL: As a stylist, you need the perfect set shoes that are comfy but cool. Merrell are a chic-er take on crocs and the white colour way is super elevated.

What’s your overall vibe and aesthetic for Summer 2022?

My summer aesthetic is probably going to be a continuation of a boxy vintage silhouette with silly little shoes, some sort of glitzy accessory and obnoxious pairs of sunglasses. I don’t tend to wear a lot of colour in winter so its fun to introduce a bit of that and louder prints when it gets warmer.

Ailsa’s Top 5 Summer Must- Haves.

  • Scrunchies: The perfect way for elevating simple summer fits, grounding something slightly dressy, or wearing on your wrist to accessorise. They are so easy to take on trips away and these Good Squish Scrunchies made by a small group of friends are adorable.
  • Anna Castellano Jeans: There’s not many other designers out there that offer you the opportunity to wear a piece of art the way Anna does. The scribbly design is super reminiscent of doodles you’d do as a child. That playfulness just encapsulates summer for me.
  • Cleopatra Prada Shirt: Investing in your archive is key to building a wardrobe you feel you can rely on. To me, this is perfect to throw on with jeans, over a bikini at the beach, or with loafers and trousers for something more formal. It’s the kind of piece that will be standout wherever you wear it.
  • Kiko Kostadinov Sunglasses: The shape of these are so different to anything else out there right now, they have that slight nod to a classic 50s cat eye, which is always flattering, but also a futurism that is so key to Kiko’s designs. They are contemporary whilst still feeling really classic.
  • Vintage Adidas Boxing Boots: I love a trainer that hybridises with the form of another kind of shoe. Heeled trainers, the split toe Nike Rifts. Such a vibe. Theres a very subtle subversion to reappropriating their functionality as a boxing boot to be a fashion boot that just makes wearing something for comfort feel a bit more like you’re having fun with it.
