AKILA launches first flagship in NYC – establishing AKILA on the East Coast.
Los Angeles-based AKILA eyewear focuses on handmade, limited-run eyewear. With the neighbourhoods rich and diverse history with the local music and art scenes, the brand chose New York’s Lower East Side for its store location as its debut east coast hub – serving as a community platform for exclusive launches, collaborations and special projects.
AKILA’s design ethos is reflected in the store’s interior, which draws inspiration from industrial aesthetics and international travel. On a seamless display wall, the brand’s sunglasses are displayed under a vaulted luminous grid ceiling. Elsewhere, there is a perforated stainless steel record wall, complemented by repetitive tiled countertops, curves and grids.
As part of AKILA‘s expansion plans, founder and creative director Chris Mart revealed plans to open a flagship store in Tokyo. However, for now, New Yorkers can enjoy a brand new look with AKILA NY located at 138 Ludlow Street, open daily from Noon – 7pm.
