Mimi Wade returns to Hollywood in Spring/Summer 2022. Having moved to Los Angeles during the pandemic to be close to her grandmother, Wade’s new collection draws inspiration from the City of Angels, with artwork by Petra Collins and Moni Haworth depicting the clothes in all their natural glory.
The designer’s grandmother Pammy, an actress and model during the Golden Age and a lifelong inspiration to Wade, is immortalized in flaming prints on a black satin a-line skirt and a black chiffon dress. Wade’s exploration of legacy continues by frequenting vintage fairs, where faded tees from the last few decades are sourced and remade, like scouted stars.
The motifs and emblems on these upcycled pieces evoke memories of tourists’ past – an American Express logo meets a gentlemen’s club; a Disneyland sign looms over a cocktail menu. The sporty Americana is paired with more traditional glamour through lace hems and inserts, while some designs recall cheerleading uniforms, trimmed in imagined team colours such as muted purple and shocking fuchsia. Two new silhouettes of party dresses are available in green moire and pink satin, referencing the exaggerated elegance of the 1980s.
The girls lounge by the pool, explore a gilded mansion and eat fast food on a private jet amid the cinematic LA fantasy, dazzled by the spotlight or just the blinding California sunshine. Check out the full lookbook below.
