Introducing Antigoni, the latest act to emerge from North London, as she drops her debut EP ‘A1’.
Featuring the new lead single ‘Good As Gold’ and the brand new bonus track ‘Are You Man Enough’, the EP also features Antigoni’s recent single ‘Is It Any Wonder?’– the stripped-back track with thought-provoking lyrical content and topical themes about social media and the negative impact it can have on everyone by having the ability to bring insecurity and doubt into our lives and how we should not feel alone.
We caught up with Antigoni to talk lockdown, mental health, and wearing all things gold!
How did you find the lockdown? And what have you learned about yourself from this surreal experience?
I’ve found positives and negatives in the lockdown. It’s been so nice to have time to write and play guitar/piano without life going 100 miles an hour and also I have a big family so it’s been fun to spend time with them. We’ve been taking turns cooking so we’ve been eating good! But on the other hand it’s been frustrating because I was meant to be shooting my next couple of music videos but that’s had to be put on hold as well as playing live but we’re all in the same position so I guess it is what it is! I’ve learnt that I’m actually a morning person! I’ve just found myself getting up early – maybe it’s because I don’t have to haha!
Has being in quarantine affected your mental health in any way? If so, what did you do to overcome those feelings?
Again it’s been up and down. I have days where I feel really grateful to be in a house with a garden with my family and I feel quite content but I also have days when I feel really anxious about being stuck at a stand still and find myself comparing myself to other people. To overcome it i just try to avoid looking at my phone that day or try to put those feelings into a song.
When you get a moment to PAUSE, what do you do for fun?
I love to just go for dinner and cocktails with my girls!! Can’t wait to do that once this is all over!
If you could be anywhere on earth, where would you be and why?
I would be on a beach, with my guitar and a cold drink. I’m such a water baby so that’s where I feel happiest.
If your style was a song, what would it be?
Hmm I think it would be Savage – Megan Thee Stallion; classy, boujie and sometimes a lil ratchet haha.
Share a beauty tip with us…
I mix a lil bit of fake tan in with my moisturiser when I’m feeling particularly pasty to give a lil natural looking glow!
Describe a time where you took your fashion sense too far, or had a style mishap.
I went through a phase were I was obsessed with anything gold: trainers, clothes, accessories, everything! At the time I thought it was so cool but looking back it was definitely just very tacky haha!
A mishap that actually makes me cringe is my boob popped out once in a club, I was wearing a little strappy top so I didn’t even notice until my male friend awkwardly pointed it out. I die thinking about it hahaha.
Tell us one thing from your bucket list. (And why)
I would love to write a song and perform with John Mayer! He’s my favourite artist and his songwriting is unbelievable so to be able to collaborate with him is a big dream of mine .
One thing you couldn’t live without?
My family and my new puppy Bella! And chocolate!
Tell us something your followers don’t know about you.
I got sent home from primary school because someone called my little sister crossed eyed, so I punched them in the face.
What can we expect from you for 2020?
My second EP will be out this year; I’m gonna start dropping singles from it in the next couple of months! I hope to get on a support tour with someone and play as many shows as possible too!
