New York based duo LION BABE – comprised of singer/songwriter Jillian Hervey and producer Lucas Goodman – have released their brand new single ‘Can’t Get Enough’. Meshing Jillian’s seductive vocals and mesmerising lyricism with melodic strings, building to a dreamy, lo-fi Hip-Hop production from Lucas, the single puts a unique, wistful twist on a classic story about a love no more.
We caught up with Jillian, and spoke about lockdown, inspirations, and dolphins!
How are you finding the change in routine since lockdown?
Our routines have stayed somewhat similar, but the space has changed, we can’t commute to studio so we are recording and working from home which has it’s challenges, but we just feel fortunate that we can continue to be productive.
What would you recommend people do in all the ‘spare’ time they are now experiencing?
Although we are in somewhat of a global pause, time is precious. We would call this time “valuable,” instead of spare. It is allowing us space to step outside of our lives and the loops we go through, and to look at them with a different perspective. We can only recommend what we have done, and for us, staying creative, grateful and staying connected to our loved ones has been the most valuable. Just take each day as it comes.
What inspires you?
Inspiration is always present. There are so many interesting patterns, traditions and symbols that appear in so many aspects of life. I’m always trying to connect the dots, I am inspired by the endless differences we all have, but also by the feelings and stories we all connect by.
Has being in quarantine affected your mental health in any way? If so, what do you do to overcome those feelings?
I am mentally going through waves, but luckily music and being an artist has always been my outlet for dealing with my emotions. The hardest thing for me to do is internalize feelings, so if I can let them out in some way, that usually helps me through. Talking to my sisters, family and dancing also helps.
When you get a moment to PAUSE, what do you do for fun?
I love cooking, and can be a homebody when given the chance. I love organizing my room, going to get fresh flowers, and lighting candles and incense. After that, drinks or hanging with my girlfriends or date nights are fun.
If you could be anywhere on earth, where would you be and why?
Currently if I could be anywhere, I would love to be some place tropical, surrounded by animals and water. Water always calms me, animals are the best comfort and joy, and the sun slows me down. It would definitely help to keep my anxiety down in this crazy time.
If your style was a song, what would it be?
This is a hard one! I’m going to be racking my brain on it! But to play it safe, I’m going to go with one of our own. “Got Body” definitely feels the most appropriate. I switch it up, but I always love feeling comfortable in my skin as a woman.
Describe a time where you took your fashion sense too far, or had a style mishap.
I don’t think you can ever push your fashion too far, it’s more fun to take a risk than to hold back. If anything, most of my mishaps come from loving my outfit so much so, that my dancing takes over. I have definitely ripped dresses, skirts, and bustiers performing. My staple has become ripping my fishnets, I don’t think I’ve ever managed to do a show with out a little whole somewhere on my leg from the show.
Tell us one thing from your bucket list.
I would love to swim with wild dolphins. It’s been a life long dream.
Tell us something your followers don’t know about you.
Before the Lion, Dolphins were my favorite animals.
What can we expect from you for 2020?
New music is coming this year, along with more visuals. We are not sure of what to expect with the world, but we are going to continue to create and hopefully can tour in real life soon.
