The Spring/Summer 2022 collection by GCDS was revealed with the help of a short fantasy film created and directed by Giuliano Calza. This season’s digital catwalk builds upon the success of the Fall/Winter 2021 collection.
Within GCDS‘ Spring/Summer collection, a nautical theme is presented through draped, rewashed deadstock denim complemented by straw hats and sparkling stone chains (the collection features hundreds of thousands of Preciosa crystals).
With an element of diaphany and sexiness, the blazers, swimwear, and Ibex clogs follow the swell of the trend. Throughout the lineup, there’s a Made in Italy imprimatur of high-quality knitwear, including elongated (and sometimes beaded) tassels on blazers, sweaters and skirts, featherlight robes, crochet dresses, and labour-intensive macramé vests. Dreamy embellished denim (inspired by GCDS’ original choker necklaces) and bedazzled jumpsuits enhance this state.
Whereas in the finale, we see mermaid-like liquid bodysuits adorned with crystals as if they resemble mermaid skin. Nothing is overcomplicated or extra-elaborate, however; eclectic ease is central to GCDS’ summery sentiment.
The collection’s most notable collaboration is with One Piece, the Japanese animated series produced by Toei Animation in 1999 scheduled to premiere its 1000th episode this fall. Calza sought to give his creations an explosion of Spanish energy for this season’s collection.
