PAUSE Eats: The Athenian

The Athenian is a small street food chain, serving Greek on-the-go dishes. Having opened in 2014, the group now has 6 London branches, and 1 in Bristol.

The menu is pretty simple and easy to choose from; it’s either Souvlaki or Gyros!

What is Souvlaki? It is skewers of grilled meat or halloumi, marinated in Greek herbs.

What is Gyros? Shavings of meat (there is also a vegan option, made from seitan and soya), marinated in herbs, lemon juice and olive oil.

Both have the option to be served in a wrap, in a box (basically a deconstructed wrap) or naked (with greek salad, minus the pita and fries).

Hungry? There are 3 portion sizes! Regular (1 protein, for us mere mortals), Meaty (doubled up) and Super (1 protein + 1 extra halloumi).

Re fries, you can also have them your way too! The option for Loaded Fries is an ideal on-the-run sharing snack. Top your fries with chicken, pork, vegan topping or feta for full on flavour, with dip of your choice on the side. I’m salivating just thinking about it.

Side note: The Athenian is plastic free! The food comes in packaging made from plants and is totally biodegradable.
